1.3 RESEARCH PROJECT
Is there a relationship between height and success in the film industry
Homework - Qualitative Data Research
What are your thoughts on the question above?
I believe this question is a little far fetched as I believe the majority of actors are successful because of their talent and previous work. However, I understand that actors may be given more of an opportunity with certain roles (if their character has to be short) than the shorter actors will be dominate the majority auditioning for that role. To conclude, I believe height is quite irrelevant and has little correlation to actors success, as those who receive work in the film industry will be successful because of their performance, not their physical height. Performance is key as the actors have too emotionally and physically embody their characters, whether that means they have to change their posture, voice etc. Either way the actor will be successful depending on their portrayal of their character and their popularity from audiences.
When discussing height's correlation with presidency I believe it is a different matter. The taller Presidents would have been the more favoured in the past due to them being perceived as a powerful figure in terms of physicality. Throughout history presidents have used certain angles to make themselves appear tall to the public. Although I only believe the taller Presidents would have been favoured during the 20th century mainly, as propaganda of physical presence was more important in campaigning during that period, rather than now. In recent decades, I believe presidents have been favoured because of their policies and promises they offer to the pubic, not heir physical height.
What does the pair think?
The pair I have asked believe that it is a unrealistic question to ask as they believe actors are only judged on their talent and former work within the film industry. When discussing Presidents on their height and how it impacts their success, my pair believe height isn't a factor when campaigning and getting votes. They believe it is all evolved around the popularity of the Presidents promises and policies. In conclusion, my pair believe the question is pointless when comparing the impacts of height with success of both Actor and Presidents.

Timothee Chalamet
I believe Timothee Chalamet's height does not contribute to his success within the industry. Timothee's height is around average for his age (23) and he is neither small nor tall. His success has come from the consistently outstanding performances he delivers within his films, as well as passion too.

Armie Hammer
I believe Armie Hammer has an advantage of achieving more roles because of his height, but only when castings need a tall young male. Armie Hammer has mostly acclaimed his success for his performances as an actor, and being able to act to a high standard. For example, Armie Hammer played a pair of twins, him performing as both separately in a film called The Social Network. For this role he was given awards and it was a huge stepping stone within his successful career. The twins role is an example of how Armie Hammer is successful in the film industry for his challenging characters, and incredible execution of them. It also shows how height has no correlation with the role, just talent and hard work.

Sarah Paulson
Sarah Paulson I believe is given role based upon her acting skills and previous work, and that her height gives no advantage or dis advantage with her success in the film industry. One of my reasonings for this is because her roles are so varied and the characters personalities she embodies are not defined by height.

Evan Peters
Evan Peters height may give him an advantage when being casted for tall young male characters. However, I believe his success if not formed or based upon height but on his acting ability. Height does not link to his success as the character's Evan Peters has played have no significance to the character, and therefore height makes not changes to Evan Peters success in the industry.

Saoirse Ronan
Soairse Ronan success within the industry has not been based upon height or effected by height as she has acted in films since she was a child. This shows how Saoirse has been casted and had success because of her consistent outstanding performances, and her ability to take on a character no matter their age or size. Soairse Ronan is a prime example of how height has no correlation when discussing success within film, because she proves that being an actor you don't have to fit a certain height and to give evidence of this, she has not typed casted because of height.
